Modern Courtyard with Agaves and Fire Bowl

Agaves, an olive tree and warm uplighting frame a concrete courtyard with timber dining furniture, stepping stones and built-in seating.

A broad concrete patio connects a timber dining table with an L-shaped built-in bench and low fire bowl. Rectangular stepping stones cross a planted bed, while agaves, bird of paradise and an olive tree create a sculptural backdrop. Warm uplighting highlights the foliage and slatted timber screen.

Combine agaves and bird of paradise with an olive tree and low groundcover, leaving space for their mature spread. Use concrete paving, dark stepping stones, gravel joints and timber seating to repeat the restrained palette. Keep the succulent beds well drained and position lights beneath selected plants rather than lighting every border evenly.
