Design the garden before you dig.

LandscapeGPT redesigns the yard in your own photo, then checks every plant against the climate where you live.

I. Why we built it

Most garden pictures online show somebody else's garden, in somebody else's climate. The AI ones are often worse: a hedge that won't survive your first winter, a patio that ignores the slope, and your house quietly repainted.

LandscapeGPT starts from your photo and your hardiness zone. It redesigns the ground, the planting and the hardscape, and leaves your house exactly as it is.

Then it tells you what it planted, whether it will grow where you live, and what to plant instead when it won't.

II. Gallery

Ordinary yards, redesigned.

Each of these started as a plain photo of someone's yard and is shown exactly as LandscapeGPT returned it, with no retouching. The houses are untouched: only the garden changed.

III. How it thinks

A designer that knows your yard is real.

Three rules sit under every design. They're why the result is something you could actually build and plant.

The house stays.

Every design keeps your walls, roof, windows, doors and colors exactly as they are, from the same camera angle. Only the land around the house changes.

Your climate has a say.

Each design comes with its plant list, checked against your USDA zone. When a plant won't survive where you live, you get a hardier swap.

You make the calls.

Tell it what to change in plain words, one edit at a time. Keep what works, undo what doesn't.

One photo in. A plan you can plant.

A real run: a tired backyard redesigned as a new-perennial garden, every plant checked for Minneapolis, and one part changed in plain words.

Change an area

Selected: the lawn

“replace the lawn with a meadow of native grasses and wildflowers, with a mown path winding through it to the seating area”

IV. Change one part

Change one part. The rest stays put.

Tap the lawn, the fence or a tired bed, and say what goes there. Only what you selected changes: the house, the trees and everything else in the photo stay exactly as they were.

V. The toolkit

Every tool is for the yard.

Nothing here touches the inside of your home or the outside of the house. It's built for the ground, the planting and the things you build in the garden.

  • Redesign

    103 styles, 26 spaces

Upload a photo of your backyard, front yard, patio or garden. Choose from 103 styles and 26 kinds of space, then say what to add or change in your own words: a patio, a fire pit, more privacy, a vegetable garden.

  • Change an area

    Tap, name or brush

Select one part of the photo, a lawn, a fence, a shed, and say what goes there. Only that part changes; everything else is left exactly as it was.

  • Edit by instruction

    Undo any step

Make the patio bigger. Remove the shed. Add string lights. Each edit builds on the last, and everything you didn't mention stays put.

  • Plant list

    ZIP code, zone or town

Every plant in a design, with sun, water and hardiness zones, checked against where you live.

  • Plant ID

    In every plan

Photograph a plant to learn its name, care, sun and water needs, and whether it's safe around pets.

VI. Styles

A style for every kind of garden.

103 styles in nine families, from clipped French parterres to Texas Hill Country, white moon gardens to backyard food forests. Each brings its own plants, materials and palette, so a Japanese garden gets maples and moss and a Mediterranean one gets olives and lavender.

VIII. Questions

Before you upload a photo.

Will it change my house?

No. Only the landscape changes: ground, planting, hardscape and garden structures. The walls, roof, windows, doors, colors and camera angle stay as they are in your photo.

What photo works best?

A daylight photo taken from a few steps back, with the area you want redesigned in frame. Wide photos give the most room to design.

How does it know my climate?

Enter a US ZIP code and we look up its USDA hardiness zone, or type a zone like 6a directly. Outside the US, type your town and the zone is estimated. Treat plant advice as a starting point and check with a local nursery.

Can a landscaper build from it?

The designs are photorealistic visualizations, not construction drawings. They're for deciding what you want and showing it to whoever builds it.

What does it cost?

$7.99 a week, $29.99 a month or $99 a year. Every plan includes every tool. Plans renew until you cancel, and there's no free trial.
