Tropical Courtyard with Built-In Timber Seating

A tiled courtyard pairs built-in timber seating and cobbled paving with lush tropical borders, raised planters, and warm evening lighting.

Large pale tiles form an open terrace leading to a smaller seating area paved with grey cobbles. An L-shaped timber bench sits within pale raised borders, surrounded by palms, broad tropical leaves, and burgundy foliage. Slatted timber screens and warm planting lights create an enclosed, relaxed setting.

Combine palms, banana plants, elephant ears, and bromeliads in perimeter beds to recreate the layered planting. Use pale paving tiles, small stone pavers, and timber bench slats for contrasting textures. Choose plants suited to your winter temperatures, and keep their mature spread clear of the seating and walking areas.
